With 300 exhibitors, the 19th ITS World Congress will be
the pre-eminent international exhibition on devices, technologies
and services related to intelligent transport systems: From 22 to
26 October in Vienna.
Under the motto "Smarter on the way", the exhibition at this
year's ITS World Congress will bring together all of the important
players in the field of intelligent transport systems. The
exhibition will show the huge amount of potential there is for
improving our everyday lives by implementing ITS systems. The
exhibitors will cover all aspects of transport systems: from
complex information and communication systems and increasingly
advanced navigation and payment systems to security, ecology and
electromobility.
About 40 Austrian companies will show their products and
services at the stand of ITS Austria (E10): for example, together with
the Vienna
Transport Authority, Telereal will show its "multi-sensual" sign
system, a new type of info point for people with hearing, visual or
physical impairments. IPTE will present a "virtual" game fence: These
wildlife warning systems can be installed along stretches of road
that are particularly at risk. They recognise when vehicles are
approaching and warn wild animals using light signals and
ultra-high-frequency sounds. Innovametall will show an all-in-one
infrastructure solution for electromobility called Safetydock - a
locker system with an integrated charging station. ITS Vienna
Region (Austria, E10) will show an intermodal traffic service
for eastern Austria that integrates current traffic data into route
planning and also plans bicycle and walking routes. Further
exhibitors at the ITS Austria stand include BMVIT, AustriaTech, AIT
- Austrian Institute of Technology, ÖBB, and ASFINAG.
The organisers of the Congress, ERTICO - ITS Europe (D30), are also organising
a themed day on Urban Mobility. A full spectrum of events is
planned including guided visits to stands featuring urban mobility
solutions, workshops and discussion followed by a networking
cocktail.
The exhibitors in 2012: From small businesses to global
players
Roughly 300 exhibitors will set up their stands for four days in
the exhibition hall at Messe Wien. There will be companies and
organisations from 28 different countries, creating a unique
international mix. In addition to exhibitors from 18 European
countries, there will be numerous representatives from countries
such as Japan, Korea, China and the USA.
Most ITS applications require reliable sensors to generate solid
data, and there are a number of companies working on effectively
recording traffic data. At the stand belonging to FLIR (Belgium,
stand P38), visitors can see how infrared cameras improve traffic
monitoring. These cameras can "see" even in complete darkness and
can film through smoke. Navtech Radar (UK, D72) will show an automated
incident detection (AID) system based on radar technology. PIPS
Technology (UK, E82) will present a warning system that tells
truck drivers when they are approaching a tunnel portal that is too
low. The Alpen-Adria University in Klagenfurt (Austria,
E10) is amongst others researching a sensor concept that classifies
the driver status (drowsiness, emotion, fatigue) based on either
facial expressions or driver voice analysis.
Kapsch
TrafficCom (Austria, B20) , an international provider of
high-performance intelligent transport systems headquartered in
Vienna, will showcase new solutions in electronic toll collection
(ETC) and in intelligent transport systems (ITS), such as
cooperative systems, weigh in motion and incident detection
systems. Kapsch TrafficCom will highlight an excerpt of reference
projects from around the globe and present the international Kapsch
Group worldwide and its heritage.
Among other products, Robert Bosch GmbH (Germany, A20) delivers
components for automotive manufacturers. Bosch will show products
that completely link up vehicles and sensors, forming the basis for
intelligent assistance systems such as automatic toll payment,
automatic emergency call services, parking management and fleet
management.
At its stand, SWARCO (Austria, D10) will show how easy and
straightforward it can be to use ITS. For the Congress, the
Austrian company is equipping a children's car with technology for
modern car-2-car communication. In this way, SWARCO will show how
ITS can control what happens at an intersection with a traffic
light based on the situation and, for example, will automatically
give right of way to emergency vehicles. In addition, there will be
a demonstration of how intelligently controlled LED street lights
by FUTURLUX provide better lighting for roads while also saving
energy.
Siemens (Germany, A10) will provide insight
into the latest results in cooperative traffic lights, GPS-aided
toll systems and intermodal e-ticketing: The electronic ticket is
key to linking different means of traffic. Siemens will show the
simplicity of organising and paying an individual trip using a
"smartcard", regardless of whether the user took a train, hired a
bike or used a car parking facility.
As a worldwide leader of communications services, Orange
Business Services (Belgium) provides innovative
Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications services to companies,
interconnecting their machines, their people and the world. At
their stand E51 a smarter way of mobility can be experienced.
The electronics manufacturer NEC (Japan, A41) will demonstrate a new traffic
control system that has been in use in Japan from this year. The
system collects data about all traffic participants, analyses the
information in real time and provides clear results for traffic
monitoring.
Smart Parking is the future of parking management, and is
already a reality in Downtown Los Angeles with the LA ExpressPark
project. On-street sensors built into the pavement recognise
whether a parking space is occupied. This information is delivered
via a wireless mesh network to provide real-time applications for
cities. A smartphone app displays the availability of nearby
spaces, as well as lets drivers pay. If the car is parked longer
than the amount of time it was paid for or allotted, the parking
operator will be notified and can take the appropriate actions. Streetline
(USA, stand P20), the creator of the sensors and applications, will
be at the ITS World Congress in Vienna.
BMW Group, Renault, PSA, Huawei Technologies and the Qatar
Mobility Innovations Center are among the exhibitors who will have
their own stand for the first time this year. They will all present
innovations from the field of intelligent transport systems in a
space spanning roughly 16,000 square metres (160,000 square feet).
The exhibition will be open starting on the second day of the ITS
World Congress (23 October 2012).
The ITS World Congress is held every three years in alternating
locations in the Americas, Asia and Europe, and will be hosted by
Vienna for the first time this year. Some 10,000 ITS professionals
are expected to attend. The Congress in Vienna from 22 to 26
October 2012 is being organised by ERTICO - ITS Europe in
cooperation with ITS America and ITS Asia-Pacific along with the
Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology
(BMVIT).
For information and reservations, visit www.itsworldcongress.com. The exhibition is
free for registered participants and a detailed programme is
available online.
