"How do I get right now exactly where I want?" - ITS Vienna
Region (represented by Klaus Heimbuchner) and VAO (Verkehrsauskunft
Österreich, traffic information Austria, a project of Asfinag,
represented by Martin Müllner) have the answer und present their
solutions on the ITS World Congress Vienna. ITS Vienna Region leads
travellers through the federal states of Vienna, Lower Austria and
Burgenland on their website "anachb.at". VAO is planning to launch their
own online platform for end-users which is supposed to cover
Austria as a whole. Both websites offer multimodal solutions
(combinations of public transport, car including parking, bike,
walking to choose). Their scope is to make travelling easier in a
way that suits traffic policy, e.g. not leading traffic through
residential areas. In order to offer this function in a way that
makes sense, the system needs to be fed the latest information
immediately. The partners which offer this information are the
public transport systems, the police, the traffic agencies and
editorial offices etc. In order to reach nationwide validity VAO
deploys Prisma Solution's GIP (represented by Stefan Kollarits), a
platform that collects all traffic-system and current traffic
information, hiking trails will be added soon. GIP is supposed to
replace or at least support the numerous regional platforms. In
this way synergies can be exploited and redundant costs will be
reduced.
Moderator Bernhard Engleder sees a possibility that the Austrian
pilot project will be expanded to neighbouring regions as a next
step.
